Team Athleon At Work

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

Here at Athleon, we’ve been working hard to add new features to our site and improve existing content to better serve the coaches and athletes who use the Athleon service.  We’ve updated a number of features recently and we’d like to show you what’s new.

Team Hub
We have revamped the Team Hub and improved the navigation to make it easy for you to access the features you use most. This includes a new header and menu at the top of the page, and a Tools bar on the left side of the page.

The center column contains Notifications which displays upcoming events and recent updates. The center also includes information from a weekly article at Athleon Chalk Talk, the most recent thread from the Team Forum, and Stats information. The right column has your Inbox, Calendar, Events, and Roster. (Click on the Team Hub image for a full-size preview.)

Athleon Chalk Talk
Athleon recently started Chalk Talk to provide quality articles, tips, and quotes to coaches and athletes. Content is contributed by Eric Musselman, the former head coach of the Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings basketball teams.

Forum Pictures

Friday, March 21st, 2008

Teams on Athleon have told us they’ve used their private forum for a variety of things: from actually helping clear up email clutter to just talking trash about each other, the world, or their opponents. Today we launched a new tool to do that, per your request (and a bet of flair of our own)

You can now easily upload pictures to the forum, either from your team’s album, or from your computer. You can then add captions in the pictures, going with the new trends in forum posting.

The Power of Colors

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

Our calendar feature originally matched the design of our website. It looked great too, except for the fact that the Athleon Gold was very difficult to read in full calendar mode. Looks don’t do much when it kills usability. We darkened the words to dark gray and left it at that.
Now, after more requests, different events are in different colors, and it certainly brings a little more life to the calendar. Games are in red, practices in gree, tournaments in blue and meetings in purple. ‘Other’ events are still the lovely dark gray color. Hope that works for you.

New Game Results Widgets

Upload your game results to Athleon, then copy and paste the code onto your public website. Go on Athleon, then click your record to check it out.

New Help System

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

I’ve never been a fan of FAQ’s since my question apparently is rarely frequently asked. I don’t like having to leave the page I have a question on to search through a giant FAQ section that isn’t necessarily easy to navigate. Many of you have already taken advantage of the help box on every page. Hit help, type in a question, and I’ll respond to you as soon as I possibly can.

Now, since it turns out many of you do actually frequently ask the same questions (set yourself as a parent by clicking ‘my locker’), we’ve updated the help system, on a page by page basis.

Confused about something? Click help, and most of the confusing stuff about that page is there (seems so simple doesn’t it?). But, if you’re still confused, don’t hesitate to type it into the help box, and we’ll send you an email asap.

New Stats System Live

Saturday, March 1st, 2008

Check it out. Click on the stats leaderboard on the main page, your locker, or ‘manager tools’ then ‘update game stats’ to check out the new system.

Per team requests, we made the upload more traditional and logical, built up new leaderboard functionality, and made team stats ‘lockable’ in case coaches only want to have players view their own personal stats reports.

Stats now integrate correctly with your game results too.

A few things of note: You can drag and drop players from your bench to the ‘field’ to enter stats for them. If they aren’t in the field but should be, it’s because they didn’t add their position. They can do this by clicking ‘my locker’ then ‘updates picture, position, and number,’ that way, goalies don’t appear in the primary column of field stats and vice versa, but if a goalie gets hurt and a random player steps up you can move him/her into the goalie stats field.

If you’d like to see a demo shoot me an email.

Send Me Your Workouts

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

As you dive deeper into Athleon, you’ll find more and more features. One of which, Athleon workout tracking, is a first version feature. We’re looking to launch version 2 later this spring.

What that means is it’s far from perfect, but more than functional enough for you to use. One glaring problem that coaches ask me about a lot is customized pieces of workouts. Yes the ‘bench press’ is common, but the ‘towel dumbell fly on a stability ball’ is not (and probably not on our site).

I know you have your own workout routines. We have a database of over 200 lifts, conditioning programs, and plyometric exercises for you to choose from…and I know that’s not NEARLY enough. Rather than spending the time continually adding every workout we can possible imagine, we wait for you to tell us what you want.

It happened today, I just added a bunch of wall drills for lacrosse training that coaches requested. Have a sport specific drill you want up? Maybe just some sort of crazy hanging leg raise with a suspended twist ab flux that you want your players to do? Just send me the name, a short description, and the parameters (sets, reps, weight….time etc. etc.) and, assuming it’s not TOO strange, I’ll add it for you asap.

When Buttons Don’t Do Anything

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

We’re doing a 180 on our stats system per user requests, and are excited about where it’s going.

HOWEVER, when developing it, we used some coding language the broke a few buttons on our website, namely those in our workout feature. So, if you’ve tried to upload a workout in the past day, I’m sure it was very frustrating when you got stuck with no way to upload the workout to your team.

It’s fixed now. Sorry for the problem. If you see any other things like this please let us know asap so we can fix it for you.

Great Use of Playbook App

Friday, February 1st, 2008

Heard of a great use of our playbook app, especially in its current state: have your PLAYERS build the plays. Every single player. Every single play. Why? Because if they can draw it, they understand it. It’s one thing to know what route to run, or what to do around the goal, but to know what ALL their teammates are doing takes the play to a different level.

You can easily delete plays from the playbook (since you’d now have 20 + of each play) by clicking the drop down arrow to the right of each play. Try it out, and see if your plays don’t work more crisply on the field

Athleon Playbooks Avaliable For Testing

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

We’ve had plans for Athleon Playbooks since the idea for this company first started. Recently multiple teams have begun requesting exactly what we’d planned to build…but they needed it sooner than this coming fall.

We decided that putting playbooks up while they were still being tested was worth it to give you the opportunity to use them THIS season. We hope you’ll agree with us.

Playbooks are in Alpha, feel free to check them out and help your team visualize plays. Feel free to tell brent@athleonsport.com the playbook features you’d like to see and hang tight, we’ll get the full fledged version up as soon as we can
